JOB OFFER

Doctoral position in Bioelectromagnetics

Title
POTENTIAL CELLULAR STRESSES INDUCED BY THE LOW-POWER MILLIMETRE WAVE EXPOSURES

Description
The Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications of Rennes (IETR), University of Rennes1, France is seeking for a candidate for the doctoral position in bioelectromagnetics open from October 2006 till September 2009 (3 years).
The research project deals with the potential biological effects of the exposures of the emergent wireless communication systems (WCS) at the cellular level. The particular attention will be paid to the frequencies located around 60GHz (57-64GHz) regarding to their near-future applications in the broadband short-range WCS. This interdisciplinary research project associate two collaborating research teams of the University of Rennes 1 with the strong expertise in antennas and high frequencies (IETR, www.ietr.org) and in cellular and molecular interactions (Group of Cellular and Molecular Interactions, ICM, www.umr6026.univ-rennes1.fr ).
The research work of the candidate will consist in the study of potential effect of the low-power millimetre waves on the induction of the cellular stresses in vitro. The role of the different exposure parameters will be considered in details.

Requirements
Applicants should have a master degree in electromagnetics or an equivalent in a similar field.
Specialization in some of the fields is expected: microwave propagation, antennas, field simulation, RF measurements.
Additional skills in cellular biology will be highly appreciated.
Applicants should be able to speak English and French.

Key words
Bioélectromagnetism, Exposure to electromagnetic fields, Millimeter waves, Heat Shock Proteins (HSP), Gene expression.
