Description
The Mobile Systems Communications Group (MOTION) within the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) is seeking to recruit a doctoral student to conduct research on a collaborative project with a French state-owned research agency. In the scope of the project the student will be expected to extend an existing system level evaluation tool to conduct research into topics based on cross-layer and cross-system optimization for wireless systems that can include WiMaX, WiFi, and UTRAN LTE (Long Term Evolution). The proposed Ph.D programme will expect the candidate student to spend a period upto 18 months at Grenoble, France to collaborate closely with our French partner. You will join an established research group at the Instituto de Telecomunicações and the opportunity to pursue research at the highest international level. The group has extensive expertise in 3G systems and beyond, IEEE 802.15.X, and DAB/DVB. The group has also been involved in EU FP5&6 projects such as MATRICE, 4MORE, ACE, ASILUM, NEXWAY and has wide collaboration with industry.
Requirements
Applicants should have a good honours degree in telecommunications, and must be fluent in at least C/C++, or Matlab programming. Creativity, independence and the ability of critical analytical thinking are essential. A final year project or a higher degree in the general area of wireless communications would be considered an advantage.
