Course on Modulation, Coding, and Iterative Techniques for Optimal Detection in Wireless Communications 22/10/2007 26/10/2007 Barcelona, Spain

COURSE CONTENT

This course focuses on techniques to reliably communicate digital information over the wireless channel. It provides the fundamental trade-offs between bandwidth, energy and performance, and explains in detail the main tools available to improve the performance of digital transmission, such as modulation schemes, coding, adaptive and iterative demodulation and decoding techniques. Focus will be on co-decoding and reception techniques, like turbo-decoding, turbo-equalization, turbo multiuser detection, and space-time co-decoding, which are revolutionizing digital communication. Wideband CDMA-related concepts will be treated, such as spreading and scrambling sequences, channel estimation, Rake receiver design, multiuser detection. Emphasis will be given to practical implementations of the presented concepts.

Each day will be concluded by a software-lab session, in which C-language programs implementing the main algorithms described in the course will be explained, used, and made available to course attendees.
